We are thinking about moving on to Year 4, so start to think about some of the things you want your new teacher to know about you. Look at the Activity booklet and choose how much you would like to do. You may do something similar when you come to school in September.

Thursday 16th July

PE: If you would like to, you can join in with Joe Wicks at 9am on YouTube.

Maths

Today there is an Emoji Code Breaking Activity using addition and subtraction. Look at the Activity sheet. There is a challenge sheet if you want to try some harder calculations instead. When you have written down each sum then think of the best way to answer each one. You might use:

  • Place Value
  • Counting on or back in multiples of ten (or hundred)
  • Vertical addition or vertical subtraction
  • If there is a small gap between the numbers in a subtraction calculation, you might find the difference by just counting instead.

English

Next year in Year 4 your classroom will be upstairs in the main building and the teachers will be Miss Osborne, Mrs. Potter and Mr. Poustie. Have a go at one of the word searches; choose either the easier word search or challenge word search.

Reading

Please read for 20 minutes each day. Remember you can do quizzes on Accelerated Reader at home by following this link.      https://ukhosted64.renlearn.co.uk/2236344/

Art

Click on the Bitesize link to find out about the artist Andy Warhol. Watch the first video about his painting “Marilyn Diptych”. He made the painting by printing the same image over and over again. Then open up the Resource sheet and look at another painting he made of Marilyn Munroe. This time he changed the background colour each time and other small parts of the image, like her lips and eye shadow. Choose one of the Andy Warhol patterns on the Activity sheet and see if you can colour it to produce a similar effect.

There are other ideas for art activities too and a video about printing techniques that you might like to save for a day in the holidays.

Maths

For some fun today go onto the Tangrams link. You will see a large square which can be “cut” up into triangles, a small square and a parallelogram. Start with one of the basic puzzles and try to move the pieces onto the outline like a jigsaw. Then choose some of the animals or new puzzles. You should need all the pieces for every puzzle. There is an answer sheet showing just a few of the puzzles, which you can use to help you if you find it tricky.

English

Today we would like you to draw a picture to say thank you to your parents for teaching you while you have been at home. The teachers have said lots of times during assemblies that we think all the children are Superstars and we think all your parents are too!

Thank you parents for all your support with learning at home from the Year 3 teachers.
