Monday 13th July

Good morning!  It's the last week of term, so this week there are some activities to help us 'round off' the year.  We are really looking forward to seeing your work this week, but also seeing YOU on Wednesday after school - make sure your grown up has read the Parent Mail about that.  Here is the home learning for today:

PE

Pick your favourite warm up to start the day.  What will you choose?

Maths

Today please follow the White Rose link below where you will find the next lesson – Regular and Irregular Polygons.

Watch the video for the lesson, then complete the worksheet which is attached to the bottom of this post. You do not need to print this, you can work in your exercise book. For the shape activities, if you aren’t able to print, why not draw your own regular and irregular polygons like the ones on the sheet.  Or maybe see if your grown up is happy for you to trace them off the screen using greaseproof paper (you MUST ask first). If you don’t have a protractor, don’t worry about measuring the angles. Once you have finished, you can go back and mark your work using the answer sheet and get a grown up to check your measuring.

English

You have all pretty much completed your adventure story films so we are going to spend this week looking at things a little bit differently. Today we are going to watch the video with the last chapter of the El Dorado story so you don’t miss out on the ending.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qb0xSvw1yUc&f

Tasks:

Write a blurb for the back of the book of your film – make it exciting so people want to read it.  Remember, drop hints about what might happen, but don’t give the ending away.  You might want to use questions to encourage people to guess what is going to happen eg. Will the Adventurers survive the fire pit?  Read the story to find out.

If you would like to read the book for yourself, you can download it here: http://bit.ly/LFF-El-Dorado-Book

Reading

Make sure you read for about 20 minutes or more if you wish. Don’t forget to do an Accelerated Reader quiz when you’ve finished a book. https://ukhosted64.renlearn.co.uk/2236344/

Saying Goodbye

It’s the last week of term this week, so it’s time for sharing our memories and looking to the future.

Today we would like you to design a memories page of your time in year 5. You can use writing, drawings and photographs. (We have given you an example of a memories page which you might like to use)

Before we entered lockdown we did cover some fantastic topics. For instance we made cams and mobile phone cases, we studied the Anglo-Saxons, investigated the work of Van Gogh and learnt songs from ‘What’s the Crime Mr Wolf?’.  Don’t forget about the Christmas visit to the Northcott to see the pantomime!

Take a photo of your memories page for us to see and post it on Seesaw.

Tuesday 14th July

Good morning Year 5. Here are today's challenges...

PE

Pick your favourite warm up to start the day.  What will you choose?

Maths

Today please follow the White Rose link below where you will find the next lesson – Reasoning about 3D shapes.

Watch the video for the lesson, then complete the worksheet which is attached to the bottom of this post. You do not need to print this, you can work in your exercise book and use the lines to help you draw the nets accurately – you may not be able to do the question which uses isometric dots. Or you could use the copy of the sheet on Seesaw and draw directly on screen.

Once you have finished, you can go back and mark your work using the answer sheet.

Task – Use your blurb from yesterday to plan a trailer for your film.  You can use the storyboard format attached if you want to.  Watch these trailers for ideas of things that you might want to include – credits, snippets of the story, release date, etc.

Saying Goodbye

Today we would like you to write a letter to your future self. (This activity was inspired by Zara 5HM)

Imagine you are going to read this letter in 20 years (just think – you’ll be 30!). What would you like your future self to know about these times we are living through? What have been the highs and lows? What is a typical day for you at the moment? You could put this letter in an envelope and keep it.

PE

Pick your favourite warm up to start the day.  What will you choose?

Maths

Today we’d like you to go on Mathletics and complete any tasks you have been set.  If you have no work set, make sure you have no red or orange activities then you can go on Live Mathletics or into the Multiverse.  Spend 10 minutes on TT Rockstars as well.

English

The final English task of the school year!  Why not write a letter to your next teacher telling them about yourself – what you enjoy, what you don’t enjoy, what you’ve done during lockdown, what you would like to do in the future – anything you think they need to know about you.  Put it on to Seesaw so your new teacher will see it in September.

Saying Goodbye

Tomorrow you begin your summer holidays. So today we want you to plan your perfect holiday somewhere either overseas or in Great Britain.

Where would you go?

Where would you stay?

Who would you go with?

What would you do each day?

What would you pack to take with you?

Present your ideas in any way you choose. This could be a PowerPoint or just a page of your book.
